BRIEF: Tired, old-fashioned unit to be given new life with a luxury look to blend in with beautiful riverside location.
The kitchen is the heart of any home, and also the most costly. Without a massive budget for a complete overhaul, we had to get a little creative. By keeping the existing position of the appliances, we were able to save big on plumbing and electrical with them. A beautiful new double door fridge would be welcome by any future holiday makers. The existing cupboard carcasses were kept, rusty hinges were replaced and new gloss white cupboard doors were installed. Add in a new stone benchtop and waterfall plus some dark sparkly splashback tiles and suddenly we had a fresh new dazzling kitchen.
The largest cost and what gave the biggest wow factor were the new beautiful large marble floor tiles installed in the living room, kitchen and stairwell. Existing bathrooms had the same tiles in a smaller size and we wanted to create a flow between the rooms. The addition of the tiles shouted luxury and elevated the quality of the entire unit. They were a big investment at $8000 including installation, but were so worth it.
It’s amazing what a fresh coat of paint will do for a space but with high ceilings and large walls, this quickly becomes a huge job that will eat away the hours and the budget. Lucky for us most of the unit was recently painted white although the beige doors, trim and grey feature wall had to go. This made it appear more modern.
Just my removing the dated carpet and furniture and the white paint it looked updated and more spacious.
One major statement was the gigantic wallpaper sourced online. The quality and colour were incredible and at only $300 plus labour to instal, it was an absolute steal. I had confidence sourcing this as the company had great reviews.
To finish the space we installed a gloss white shelving unit with glass open shelves along one wall.
This gave us space to house the TV and board games as well as a chance to style and display some pretties.
